FaithSets study

In short

God’s endless love is patient, holy, and sacrificial. He does not force sinners to love Him, but He calls them with mercy, grief, and truth. His love is most clearly revealed in Jesus Christ, whose blood sacrifice opens the way back to God.

Where am I?

You are in the Walk with Jesus journey. This study comes after learning that God’s greatness humbles us, because humility becomes deeper when we also see how patiently and personally God loves.

Why does this matter?

Many people misunderstand God’s love as either force or softness. Scripture shows a deeper love: God gives freedom, calls sinners to return, and provides the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the way of reconciliation.

  • Why does God allow people to choose another path?
  • How did God respond after Adam and Eve sinned?
  • How does God’s love point to Jesus Christ’s blood sacrifice?
  • How can a sinner reconnect with God’s love?

What is God's Love Like? Back to contents ↑

God’s love is like a gentle river, flowing freely and without force. This love doesn't push or demand; it simply is, offering us the precious gift of choice. In this divine love, we find an open invitation: "I love you so much, that I gave everything up to be with you. Will you not answer My deep love with everything that you have and are?"

God however, respects our decisions. If we choose a different path, He accepts it without forcing His way, however has very deep pain about your decision. His love creates a space for freedom, but cries if we don't answer His love!

If we decide to go our own way, God cries, "Where are you!". It's not a command but an invitation to join Him out of ultimate love Think of a father, heartbroken, asking this question at his child's grave.

Echoing Adam and Eve... Back to contents ↑

Key verses: Genesis 3:10; Genesis 3:13; Genesis 3:21

This echoes Adam and Eve's story in the Bible. After they sinned, they hid from God. However, He wasn't angry but deeply saddened, asking the same question. Adam and Eve's story in Genesis 3 shows us their fear and blame. When God asked them about their actions, Adam blamed Eve:

“And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Genesis 3:10 (KJB)

and Eve blamed the serpent:

“And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.”

Genesis 3:13 (KJB)

This is often how we react too — either scared or defensive.

But God didn't react with anger or demands, only with pain and love. He showed patience and love, even when they blamed Him. Despite their mistakes, God still cared for them, providing clothes for them, which required a blood sacrifice:

“Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”

Genesis 3:21 (KJB)

This points to Jesus's blood sacrifice, which offers us freedom from our mistakes and a chance to reconnect with God's love.

We Can Reconnect With God’s Love Through Jesus’s Blood Sacrifice Back to contents ↑

Key verses: John 3:3–6; Titus 3:5-6

God's love is patient and open. His love is constant, even when we don't feel sure about it. However, realize that justice is also love! If we accept Jesus’s blood sacrifice, we will be forgiven from our guilt and enter the kingdom of God:

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

John 3:3-6 (KJB)

The Bible shows this love on every page. It's a love that lets us talk openly about our worries and doubts. Through everything, God is there, listening and caring. However, if we don’t react to Jesus’s blood sacrifice, we are still under judgement.

As you read your Bible, you'll see this unending love. It's a love that surprises, lasts, and invites us into its warmth. Oh, if you only say yes to His love and give your all to Him and receive eternal life:

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

Titus 3:3-7 (KJB)

Frequently asked questions

Does God’s love force people to follow Him?

No. God’s love gives a real invitation and allows a real response. He calls sinners to return, but He does not force love. This makes the decision serious.

Why did God ask Adam, ‘Where are you?’

The question reveals God’s personal grief and call after sin. Adam and Eve hid, blamed, and feared, but God still came to them and provided a covering.

How does Genesis 3 point to Jesus Christ?

God clothed Adam and Eve with skins, which required the death of an innocent animal. This points forward to the greater covering through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Is justice part of God’s love?

Yes. True love does not ignore evil. God’s justice shows that sin is real, while His mercy shows that He has provided salvation through Jesus Christ.

How can we reconnect with God’s love?

We reconnect with God by coming to Jesus Christ, receiving His blood sacrifice for our sins, and being born again by the Holy Spirit.
