Who We Are in Jesus Christ

As followers of Jesus Christ, we apply His teachings in our daily lives. We acknowledge that we come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and as such are dependent on the Holy Spirit which the heavenly Father (God) will give to them that ask Him (Luke 11:13). This way we are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13).

We don’t try so much as to outwardly imitate Jesus, but to become inwardly as He is, so in thoughts, deeds and works. We want to increase in character, for whosoever shall do and teach the commandments of Jesus, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:19). However, we acknowledge that we will have to be taught by Him for every day of our lives for as long as we live.

We don’t claim to be perfect, but try to follow Him to the best of our abilities.

Our Foundation

We believe that the God of the Old Testament is the same as the God in the New Testament and as such the whole bible is one coherent brilliant piece of work, which has been inspired by the Holy Spirit. In it we find the things God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit value (like and dislike) and how He reacts towards people’s attitude. We ask if the Holy Spirit will enlighten our thinking in who He is and what His character is like.

What We Believe

We believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are one (John 14:10 and Mark 1:10). When reading the Bible you will find that they are separate and tightly dependent on each other at the same time.

We believe that men and women are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26), having a soul, body and spirit (Genesis 2:7 and 1 Thessalonians 5:23). These are separate and tightly dependent on each other at the same time.

We believe that men and women sinned as described in Genesis 3 and that through this sin the direct connection with God died (Genesis 2:17). This is also true for their decedents, including us.

We believe that Jesus Christ died on a cross in our place, taking the punishment for our sins that we deserved, and even more importantly, rose again from the dead as waw witnessed by many people (1 Corinthians 15:3-9) and that through His resurrection we will inherit eternal life if we follow Him (Romans 6:5)

We believe that when we accept Him as Lord, which means that we follow Him, we become born again through this sacrifice at the cross, without which we can not see the kingdom of God (John 3:3).

We believe that we have to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ by staying connected with Jesus (John 15:4) in the same way a married couple develops a relationship as is explained in 1 Corinthians 11.

We believe that if we don’t become born again, we end up without the Way, the Truth and the Life, which means: without Jesus. This will result a life ending in sin, after which we will land in a place where God is not: that is hell. Here where people keep on sinning for eternity. This is explained in the parable of the certain rich man and beggar named Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31.

We believe that because he paid the ultimate price by giving His life, no sin of whatever kind can keep us away from God. In this way we find the Way, the Truth and Life, which IS Jesus Christ. Here we will ends up in the place where God is present: the kingdom of heaven. This is explained by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7.

We believe that when we become baptized in water through immersion, we express that we leave a life of sin behind, just like the Israelite's left the Egyptian army behind in the Reed Sea. In this way we become baptized into the death of Jesus (Romans 6:3).

We believe that the church is the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27) and as such we are united under one head and together become renewed in the spirit of your mind in kinds of ways as is explained in Ephesians 4.

Next to this we believe that the bible gives us loving rules which will improve the quality of life for others and for ourselves. Rules which comprise showing respect for others and respect for marriage. This makes us people who are against discrimination of any kind, including racial discrimination, sexual abuse, sexual immorality, child and spousal abuse. Additionally we have respect for life itself. As we believe that life starts at inception, we are opposing abortion.

Our Mission

Jesus sends us into the world to make disciples / followers of Christ (Matthew 28:19). How this is expressed is different for each of us. The world where Jesus sends us can be your neighborhood or far away. It depends on where Jesus will send you. Nowadays, the world can be reached through modern media and is in a certain way a communication without physical borders.

When Jesus guides us with His Holy Spirit, unplanned things can happen. It is therefore much better to ask the Lord about what He want us to do in a specific situation, then to plan everything ourselves and ask the Lord for His blessing. The latter is not Christ centric, the former is. We aim to apply this in our lives.
